Our Mission!

The mission of 2nd Genesis Foundation is to promote healing, inclusion, and liberation for Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and disabled youth and adults by delivering culturally responsive, trauma-informed, community-based services that foster wellness and belonging.

About Us

WHO WE ARE

The 2nd Genesis Foundation (2G) is more than a nonprofit—we are a declaration. A Black-led, same-gender-loving-led movement rooted in the rhythms of our people and the resilience of our legacy. Founded by Dr. Calvin Spinks—known to many as Dr. Cal—2G is the culmination of decades of healing work across HIV prevention, mental health, and cultural empowerment. Raised on the South Side of Chicago and refined through grassroots service, clinical mastery, and spiritual conviction, Dr. Cal envisioned a foundation that would meet people where they are—and walk with them toward where they could be.

2G was never born in a boardroom. It was born in barbershops, on ballroom floors, in back pews and basement meetings—where survival whispered into our ears and purpose answered. In those early days, we brought HIV testing, condoms, and connection to clubs, shelters, churches, and school gyms. We showed up when others turned away. And we stayed when the money disappeared. What we heard—again and again—was a call for care that was honest, culturally rooted, and unapologetically human.

When the nonprofit sector could no longer hold our vision, we stepped back—not to disappear, but to rebuild. Through Quantum Consulting Group, our behavioral health agency, we created a for-profit infrastructure with Medicaid approval, HIPAA compliance, audit readiness, and incredible operating capacity. We built systems that could hold our people, not break them. Now, we return to the nonprofit sector with strength, clarity, and a sacred sense of duty.

We provide comprehensive programs designed to support individuals living with disabilities, focusing on empowerment and independence. Our specialized services are tailored to the unique needs of those with visual impairments, addressing both blindness and low vision. Through our health disparities advocacy, we implement initiatives aimed at addressing and reducing health disparities in marginalized communities. Our integrated behavioral health programs support mental wellness and resilience, and our prevention and education efforts focus on promoting health and well-being in underserved populations.

Our Purpose

At 2nd Genesis, we center those too often pushed to the margins—because we were once there ourselves. Our purpose is to close the gaps that fracture lives:

*Black and Brown communities struggling with behavioral health needs and systemic neglect

*LGBTQ+ youth and adults, especially Black men who love men and transgender women of color

*Veterans coping with trauma, disability, and reintegration

*People with visible and invisible disabilities seeking dignity and access

*Unhoused and justice-involved individuals navigating stigma and survival

*All underserved and marginalized communities facing entrenched health disparities, structural racism, and institutional harm

We believe that healing cannot happen without belonging. That care must see the whole person. And that equity isn’t a goal—it’s a requirement.

WHAT WE OFFER

Explore all of our Services

Support Services for Disabilities:

We offer comprehensive support services for individuals living with disabilities. Our programs are designed to empower and promote independence, providing personalized assistance and resources tailored to each person's unique needs. By focusing on skill development, adaptive tools, and community integration, we aim to enhance the quality of life and self-sufficiency of those we serve. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where everyone can achieve their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

HIV Prevention and the Fight Against Health Disparities

We address health disparities at their root by offering HIV prevention and care services alongside broader health equity initiatives. Our services include rapid HIV testing, PrEP and PEP navigation, linkage to affirming medical providers, and ongoing support for those newly diagnosed or re-engaging in care. But we know that HIV does not exist in a vacuum—it intersects with mental health challenges, housing insecurity, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and barriers to access that disproportionately affect Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and low-income communities. That’s why we integrate HIV services into a comprehensive framework that also targets behavioral health, disability support, and social determinants of health—ensuring our work combats the full spectrum of disparities that continue to harm the communities we serve.

Behavioral Health Support:

We provide comprehensive mental health services that address the complex realities our communities face. This includes individual therapy, group counseling, peer-led support groups, and wraparound case management tailored for youth, adults, and veterans. Whether navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, or the mental health effects of systemic oppression, our approach is always trauma-informed, culturally affirming, and rooted in radical empathy. Clients receive care that reflects their lived experiences, honors their resilience, and supports their journey toward emotional balance, self-acceptance, and sustained healing.

Healing Circles and Wellness Workshops

Healing is not a one-time event—it’s a continuous process rooted in community, reflection, and cultural connection. Our Healing Circles and Wellness Workshops create safe, affirming spaces where participants can process trauma, reclaim identity, and build resilience through storytelling, mindfulness, and collective care. These gatherings are led by trained facilitators and peer leaders who reflect the lived experiences of those we serve. Whether focused on grief, racial trauma, gender identity, or emotional regulation, each session is designed to restore a sense of belonging and empower individuals to take ownership of their healing journey. We honor ancestral wisdom and modern therapeutic practices side by side, reminding our communities that healing doesn’t just happen in clinics—it happens in circles.
